Kent State Microsoft Agreement

Campus Agreement

Effective July 1, 2007, Kent State University renewed the “Campus Agreement” with Microsoft. Under this agreement, all university-owned computers are covered for Windows Operating System upgrades, Microsoft Office Professional, Share Point Designer (Microsoft's Front Page replacement), Visual Studio Net and Core CAL. In addition, students are covered for Core CAL so that they can access University Servers where applicable.

This agreement grants most Faculty/Staff work-at-home use rights while they are employed at Kent State. Faculty and Staff may purchase media for home installation by visiting http://kent.e-academy.com. Please note that the agreement prohibits university restricted media from being installed on personally owned computers. Any Faculty/Staff individual wishing to utilize the software at home must purchase their own copy of the media as outlined above. Faculty/Staff do not own the license, but have a right-to-use the software while employed by Kent State. Software must be removed at time of departure from the university.

Select Agreement

The "Select Agreement" allows departments to buy copies of other Microsoft products for use on university owned computers. This agreement includes desktop products and servers. Unlike the Campus Agreement above, licenses purchased under the Select Agreement are for a single machine, so a license must be purchased for each machine that the software is installed on. See your departmental LAN administrator for purchasing information. There are no work-at-home use rights for products purchased under the Select Agreement.

Student/Employee Select Agreement

The "Student/Employee Select Agreement" allows Students, Faculty and Staff to purchase licenses and media for their personal use. The current products available under the Student/Employee Select Agreement includes Windows Operating System upgrades, the Microsoft Office Suite (both PC and Mac platforms), Share Point Designer, OneNote, Project Professional and Visio Professional. Individuals may purchase a single copy of each covered product by visiting http://kent.e-academy.com. Additional products may be added by Microsoft at a later date, however currently these are the only products available to any institution under the Student Select program. Under this program, the purchaser owns the license at the time of purchase, so they may continue to use the software after they leave the university.

How the new Microsoft agreement affects departments

Under the new “Campus Agreement,” Department Lan Administrators will access the media necessary for installation on university owned computers via a share on Information Service's "S" drive. Lan Administrators can gain access to the share by contacting Chris Bues.

University restricted media may not be duplicated and given to faculty or staff members for home installation. All faculty and staff members must purchase media as outlined above.
